Our Story: A Legacy of Innovation and Community Care

The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe has long been a leader in health care innovation. In 1995, the Tribe pioneered the first insurance-based health program for Tribal Citizens, ensuring year-round, unrestricted access to care. As challenges arose with external clinics and insurance acceptance, the Tribe recognized that the best way to fully support its Citizens, and the broader community, was to establish its own primary care clinic.

That vision became urgent in 2001 when the Sequim Virginia Mason Clinic announced its closure, sparking fears of losing essential health services. The Tribe stepped forward as a stabilizing force, partnering with Dr. Mike Crim and his team to create a new community-centered clinic. On April 15, 2002, Jamestown Family Health Clinic (JFHC) opened its doors in Sequim, welcoming patients with a team of four medical providers and eight nursing and administrative staff. From the start, the clinic served both Tribal Citizens and non-Tribal community members.

Demand for care grew rapidly. In 2010, JFHC moved into a new, Tribal-owned facility on the Olympic Medical Center campus, a joint effort with OMC to meet the region’s increasing need for primary care. Over the years, as smaller clinics closed, the Tribe hired providers committed to staying in the community, ensuring continuity of care for thousands of patients.

Today, JFHC is a thriving, patient-centered medical home with 26 medical providers, 45 nursing staff, and an overall team of 135 professionals serving more than 18,000 patients. The clinic remains open to the general public and continues to welcome new patients, consistently earning patient satisfaction scores that exceed industry standards.

JFHC offers comprehensive services beyond family practice, including behavioral health counseling, diabetes education, pain management, medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorders, select orthopedic and dermatology care, and pharmacist-led medication consultations. Our dedicated Quality Team drives innovation through evidence-based care models such as Healthy Hearts, 6 Building Blocks, and Annual Wellness Visits, all focused on improving health outcomes for the population we serve.

Today, Jamestown Family Health Clinic is nationally recognized as a leading health care model in Indian Country, setting the standard for innovation, quality, and community-focused care. Through leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to community well-being, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe has filled a critical health care gap and continues to strengthen access to high-quality care for the entire region.

When I worked as a community partner of Jamestown, I was always impressed by the good word of mouth Jamestown had as an employer. Now that I have the honor of working for Jamestown myself, I can say the hype is real! Jamestown work culture is a wonderful balance of professionalism with family-oriented vibes.
